How to install this Video Player on your website

Step 1. SWF embedding

Download the player.zip archive and put all the files from this archive into the same folder with the HTML file in which you want the component to be embedded.

You should know first of all that the SWF file is the one that actually represents the component, while the other files (settings.xml, media.xml and JPGs in the assets folder) are the assets that the SWF file uses.
A short explanation on how SWFs and XMLs interacts you will find here.

Open your HTML file with a text editor and insert somewhere between the

tags the following lines:

For a fast and easy publishing, the best thing to do is to have the SWF file, the HTML file which embeds the SWF, the swfobject.js file, and the assets that the SWF uses (XMLs, JPGs folder) in the same folder.

If that is not possible, please read this detailed article on how to specify the paths correctly.

The above code itself isn’t enough to publish the SWF file on your webpage. You just need to add a div somewhere in the body section of your page (between the

tags of your HTML file).

So, in a specific location of your HTML body section insert this div:

Step 2. Customization

You’ll be able to define a maximum size of 1680 in width and 1050 in height in the 3rd and 4th arguments of the swfobject.embedSWF() function above. Usually the same values as for appWidth and appHeight (which you will set below).

Now you will have to define the properties of your Video Player.

You can do that by editing the settings.xml file, or much simpler, set your values on the Live Demo above and press Generate button, then select all (Ctrl+A) and copy-paste over the existing content of settings.xml file.

In addition to these customizable variables on the Live Demo you have some 50 more properties you can customize in the style.css file, regarding fonts, colors, sizes of the list, subtitle and info section.

If you intend to have multiple Video Players on the same page, for the same player.swf file you’ll need to have different settings.

If you want to design your own skin all you have to do to integrate it into this player is to slice the design so for each button you will have a different image (JPG, GIF, etc). Then in the skin.xml file, for each control (button) you will be able to define three states for each button (out, over, press).

All is left to do is to put your own video or audio clips (media items), add the details like thumb image, description title, description text, watermark, subtitle, start image. All these through the media.xml file. In the media.xml file from the downloaded archive you will see how these details are specified so you could change them with your own custom details. You can delete a detail if you don't want to have it (like subtitle tag, or watermark)
You can have as many media clips as you like. To add a new clip add a new item tag in the XML file.

Here’s how an XML entry (corresponding to an image) should look:

    <watermark value="assets/watermark/sample.png"/>
    <startImage value="assets/startimage/sample.gif"/>
    <subtitleURL value="assets/subtitles/sub.xml"/>
    <infoThumb value="assets/infothumb/sample.gif"/>
    <infoTitle><infoTitle>Sample Title</infoTitle></infoTitle>
    <infoDesc><infoDesc>Sample description</infoDesc></infoDesc>

If you’ll want to use the Video Player in Flash projects (FLA files), the Video Player FX is available as a Flash component (MXP file) in the commercial archive

Instructions on how to use the Video Player component in Flash you will find here.

Below you will see instructions on how to install and use the Video Player Component in Flash (available for Flash CS3, CS4, and Flash Player 9 or later).

For basic instructions on how to integrate the Video Player’s SWF file into HTML/PHP, click here.

You can watch an instalation video tutorial of a very similar component in Flash (3D Carousel Menu FX) by clicking here.

In this video you will see:
- how to create an instance of the component on the stage: from the Components panel (Ctrl+F7) drag & drop the component on the stage
- how to give a name to that instance for further use in ActionScript: click on the component instance on the stage and from the Properties panel (Ctrl+F3) enter a name in the text input
- how to access the properties of the component (read or modify) during different moments of your Flash application

Any property of the Component could be accessed that way. The names of the properties are identical with the ones from the settings.xml file.

The properties of the component can be of any of the three types: Number, String, Boolean. We assume it’s intuitive of which type each property is.

Warning! Setting the parameters of the component in the Component Inspector window (Shift+F7) and in the same time having a settings.xml file populated with different values for each property, the properties from the settings.xml file will have priority (meaning that a parameter set in the Component Inspector will be ignored if that parameter is also defined in the XML file)

For now, this component doesn't dispach events, but stay tuned for an update.

Make sure your Wordpress version is greater than 2.8 and your hosting provider is using PHP5.

1. Download or purchase the Video Player FX Flash component

2. Create a new folder inside your /wp-content/ directory called flashxml/video-player-fx and copy the content of the archive to this folder

3. Install the plugin or upload the video-player-fx folder along with all its files to /wp-content/plugins/ directory

4. Activate the plugin from the Plugins tab in WordPress Dashboard

5. Go to Video Player FX from the Settings tab and update the path in case you used a different one

6. In the post editor use the following tag to embed the Video Player FX: [video-player-fx][/video-player-fx]. You could also add <?php videoplayerfx_echo_embed_code(); ?> in the PHP file of your theme

7. Customize your Video Player FX using the Live Demo above. Generate the settings.xml text and use it to overwrite flashxml/videoplayerfx/settings.xml

8. To use your own videos, upload them to the flashxml/videoplayerfx/videos folder and update the flashxml/videoplayerfx/media.xml file accordingly

Additional settings file

To embed the Video Player FX more than once, you will need another settings file and (probably) another set of videos. Let's assume your new file is called settings2.xml. From the post editor, use the following code: [video-player-fx settings="settings2.xml"][/video-player-fx]. From the PHP files of your theme, add the file name as the first argument of the videoplayerfx_echo_embed_code() function call. If you use a separate set of videos, don't forget to create a new XML file for that and update the value in the settings file.

No Flash support text

To support visitors without Adobe Flash, you can provide alternative textual content. From the post editor, add the text between [video-player-fx] and [/video-player-fx]. From the PHP files of your theme, add the text as the second argument of the videoplayerfx_echo_embed_code() function call.

If you have PHP4

To make it work if you're using PHP4, add the following code [video-player-fx width="600" height="300"][/video-player-fx] in the post editor. From the PHP files of your theme, add the width and height as the third and fourth argument of the videoplayerfx_echo_embed_code() function call. Don't forget to provide your own width and height values, since 600 and 300 are just examples.

Make sure your Joomla version is 1.5 and that your hosting provider is using PHP5.

Joomla Module

1. Download or purchase the component

2. Create a new folder inside your Joomla directory called flashxml/videoplayerfx/

3. Unzip the archive and copy the contents to flashxml/videoplayerfx/ directory

4. Download the Joomla Module and install it

5. If you used a different folder than flashxml/videoplayerfx/, update the Path parameter

6. Visit the live demo from the top of this page and customize your settings

Joomla Plugin

1. Download or purchase the component

2. Create a new folder inside your Joomla directory called flashxml/videoplayerfx/

3. Unzip the archive and copy the contents to flashxml/videoplayerfx/ directory

4. Download the Joomla Plugin and install it

5. If you used a different folder than flashxml/videoplayerfx/, update the Path parameter

6. Use {videoplayerfx}{/videoplayerfx} where you want the component to show up in your articles

7. Visit the live demo from the top of this page and customize your settings

8. The default name for the settings file is settings.xml, but if you want to use another file (for example settings2.xml), specify the name like this: {videoplayerfx settings="settings2.xml"}{/videoplayerfx} where you want the component to show up in your articles

Getting rid of the FlashXML.net label

To remove the FlashXML.net label from the top-left corner you'll need to buy the commercial archive.
Once you will do that, simply use the SWF file from the commercial archive to overwrite the SWF file from the flashxml/videoplayerfx/ folder.

Hi,

Is there any way to hide the list of other movies completely? Like setting listPosition to “non” or simliar?

support

Hi,

You could change the value of listActiveOnStart to false in your settings.xml file.

Hi,

What do you mean by “pass information between these files with asp”:
If a user makes a choice then the XML files are generated depending on his choice?

Dears.I experiment with Banner rotator to manage the pictures for animation.I use asp component to upload the images and to delete. This work ok
Also I experiment with video plauer FX .
I have folowing question.
I insert the folowing line flashvars.settingsXML = “settings.xml”; in index file to pont settings to settings.xml file.
The video plauer FX is based on following files settings.xml , media.xml , and files in subtitles folder.
The player works corectly if I convert these files to .asp extensions.
My question is: Is it possible to pass information between these files with asp code for example using Request.QueryStrinq(IDvariable) and to sucessful link with this to access database
Best regards

When I put one of your .flv videos in the video folder and change the following code in the media.xml file, the video does not play.

<watermark value=“assets/watermark/oscar.png”/>
<startImage value=“assets/startimage/bubbles.gif”/> <subtitleURL value=“assets/subtitles/bubbles.xml”/> <infoThumb value=“assets/infothumb/bubbles.gif”/> <infoTitle><infoTitle>Under Construction</infoTitle></infoTitle> <infoDesc><infoDesc>Under Construction</infoDesc></infoDesc>

I have the demo version because I want to understand how it works before I buy. Do I need to change some codes besides that of the media file? The video “bubbles.flv” is the same as your “Flash XML – Video Player FX6.flv”. I renamed it “bubbles.flv” and played it without any problem in realplayer. However, it does not play in the xml video player. I made sure that it was in the video folder. Also, if I buy the extended version, will there be a phone number for me to call in case I have some questions.

Hi,

Please give us the link to your website where you tested it so we can check all other files as well.

hello,
how to insert Banner Rotator FX and Video Player FX on the same pages?

support

Hi,

You’ll need to follow the steps from this tutorial that explains in detail how to do that.
There is presented how to publish the same component, twice on the same page, the procedure is the same for publishing different components on the same page.

Thank you.

Here’s the video player that shows the image on pause even though the settings are set to false. I reinstalled the entire folder to see if that would help, so currently it is your default media.xml and videos. http://www.globalimagesllc.com/wordpress/?page_id=6

I just want it to show the start image on start up and not on pause. Thanks

Hi,

I’m sorry but it looks like there’s a small problem. We’ll try to fix it.
