How to specify the correct path in the embedding code of the SWFs

Generally, you must know that the path of the assets the SWF uses (the path of the images or videos specified in the XML file and the path of the XML files themselves) must be relative to the path of the HTML file which embeds the SWF file (and not relative to the SWF file - a common confusion).

If the folder path of the HTML differs from the product’s folder path (the folder in which the XML files and images or videos are located) then you must specify that path as value for the base attribute.

This is an example for 3D Banner FX (replace the product's name if you're using a different one):

- the index.html file is located at this address on your domain: http://www.yourdomain.com/index.html

- the swfobject.js file is located at this address: http://www.yourdomain.com/Banner/swfobject.js

- the product's files (XMLs, assets and images) are located in the Banner folder: http://www.yourdomain.com/Banner/

- the 3DBannerFX.swf file is located in the product's folder: http://www.yourdomain.com/Banner/3DBannerFX.swf

This is the embedding code you have to use:

<div id="Div3DBannerFX"></div>
<script type="text/javascript" src="Banner/swfobject.js"></script> //specify the folder's name here
<script type="text/javascript">
 var flashvars = {};
 var params = {};
 params.base = "Banner/"; //specify the folder's name here
 params.scale = "noscale";
 params.salign = "tl";
 params.wmode = "transparent";
 params.allowFullScreen = "true";
 params.allowScriptAccess = "always";
 swfobject.embedSWF("Banner/3DBannerFX.swf", "Div3DBannerFX", "600", "374", "9.0.0", false, flashvars, params); //specify the folder's name here
</script>

You can also use absolute paths like in this example:

params.base = "http://www.yourdomain.com/Banner/";

In case you used a different folder name don't forget to replace in all locations the Banner name with the name of your folder.

Note: there are three different locations in the embedding code where you have to specify the product's folder name so make sure you update all of them.

Regarding z-index issues…. I think this is resolved! :) It is just a matter of removing height as an attribute from the upper nav menu. Changed this in the head code too: params.wmode = “opaque”;

PS The support for your products is phenomenal. it’s appreciated! :)

HTML Content Scroller FX

Just a quick question…. I picked this up to resolve an issue. There is a horizontal nav menu with subnavs at the top of a page that will also require scrolling content. The subnavs are image based.

Initially I tried a javascript based text scroller but the z-index issues were a nightmare.

On the home page of the same site I was able to place an swf image rotator by positioning all elements on the page as absolute, assigning a z-index of one to0 the nav menu and a z-index of zero to the swf container. The wm mode was set to transparent just like your example. It was/is successful. The rotator works as expected and the nav menu drop downs also work.

I thought if I applied the same technique I could achieve similar results with this tool for the scrolling content on a different page, but thus far even with tweaks I have not been successful. I’ve tried transparent, opaque, setting everything to absolute positioning, playing with z-index settings…..

When the scrolling text is placed near the top by the nav menu, I can get the text to work or the menu but not both.

Any suggestions?

P.S. I love your products and am open to purchasing one that will resolve this as long as the nav style can be like: http://lifetechcare.com/full_site/pediatric.html

The page I am experimenting with is here: http://lifetechcare.com/full_site/insurance_swf/insurance.html It is quite a mess, but is a work in process.

Thanks
Julie

Hi,

Please send the correct link to your page where you embedded the HTML Content Scroller FX so I can check it. The one you sent did not display anything.

OK, so I need to use multiple carousels on the same page, so I want to reference different images.xml files for each, and different settings.xml too as some are bigger than others.

I’ve got a single carousel working just fine, it’s making the various carousels on the same page go look for different XML files that’s messing with my head.

Where do I put the FlashVars code. Please take it slow with me, I am not a coder, I’m a designer! I’m trying to start simple, so this is the code I’ve got so far for putting a single flash movie on the HTML page, now where do I put the flashVars stuff:

<html xmlns=“http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml” lang=“en” xml:lang=“en”> <head> <title>spinit</title> <meta http-equiv=“Content-Type” content=“text/html; charset=utf-8” /> <style type=“text/css” media=“screen”> html, body { height:100%; background-color: #ffffff;} body { margin:0; padding:0; overflow:hidden; } #flashContent { width:100%; height:100%; } </style> </head> <body> <div id=“flashContent”> <object classid=“clsid:d27cdb6e-ae6d-11cf-96b8-444553540000” width=“900” height=“270” id=“spinit” align=“middle”> <param name=“movie” value=“spinit.swf” /> <param name=“quality” value=“high” /> <param name=“bgcolor” value=”#ffffff” /> <param name=“play” value=“true” /> <param name=“loop” value=“true” /> <param name=“wmode” value=“window” /> <param name=“scale” value=“showall” /> <param name=“menu” value=“true” /> <param name=“devicefont” value=“false” /> <param name=“salign” value=”“ /> <param name=“allowScriptAccess” value=“sameDomain” /> <!—[if !IE]>—> <object type=“application/x-shockwave-flash” data=“spinit.swf” width=“900” height=“270”> <param name=“movie” value=“spinit.swf” /> <param name=“quality” value=“high” /> <param name=“bgcolor” value=”#ffffff” /> <param name=“play” value=“true” /> <param name=“loop” value=“true” /> <param name=“wmode” value=“window” /> <param name=“scale” value=“showall” /> <param name=“menu” value=“true” /> <param name=“devicefont” value=“false” /> <param name=“salign” value=”“ /> <param name=“allowScriptAccess” value=“sameDomain” /> <!—<![endif]—> <a href=“http://www.adobe.com/go/getflash”> <img src=“http://www.adobe.com/images/shared/download_buttons/get_flash_player.gif” alt=“Get Adobe Flash player” /> </a> <!—[if !IE]>—> </object> <!—<![endif]—> </object> </div> </body>
</html>

Speedy assistance greatly appreciated.

I have a CDN and I actually generate an .flv filepath from the CDN but the CDN is hosted elsewhere from where my site/video player are. Do you foresee any issues with being able to use this player with CDN links for video filepaths or are there going to be issues? From my experience, some players don’t allow cross-domain usage or some other security issue and I want to make sure that I can load the videos externally from the CDN before I purchase for commercial use.

Thanks!
