How to install this Image Scroller on your website
Step 1. SWF embedding
Download the image-scroller.zip archive and put all the files from this archive into the same folder with the HTML file in which you want the component to be embedded.
You should know first of all that the SWF file is the one that actually represents the component, while the other files (settings.xml, images.xml and JPGs in the images folder) are the assets that the SWF file uses.
A short explanation on how SWFs and XMLs interacts you will find here.
Open your HTML file with a text editor and insert somewhere between the

tags the following lines:

For a fast and easy publishing, the best thing to do is to have the SWF file, the HTML file which embeds the SWF, the swfobject.js file, and the assets that the SWF uses (XMLs, JPGs folder) in the same folder.
If that is not possible, please read this detailed article on how to specify the paths correctly.
The above code itself isn’t enough to publish the SWF file on your webpage. You just need to add a div somewhere in the body section of your page (between the

tags of your HTML file).
So, in a specific location of your HTML body section insert this div:

Step 2. Customization
You’ll be able to define a maximum size of 1680 in width and 1050 in height in the 3rd and 4th arguments of the swfobject.embedSWF() function above. Usually the same values as for width and height on the live demo (which you will set below).
Now you will have to define the properties of your Image Scroller.
You can do that by editing the settings.xml file, or much simpler, set your values on the Live Demo above and press Generate button, then select all (Ctrl+A) and copy-paste over the existing content of settings.xml file.
If you intend to have multiple Image Scrollers on the same page, for the same imagescroller.swf file you’ll need to have different settings. Please read here how publish a component twice on the same page.
Now all you have to do is to put your own images, add the tooltip text and add the behavior for when clicking each image. All these through the images XML file. Open the XML file with a text editor and define in each row the image path, the URL to go to when clicking the image, the target (_self for the same browser window, or _blank for a new browser window), and the tooltip text.
You can have as many images as you like. To add a new image add a new row in the XML file.
To add Lightbox functionality (showing a bigger image and a description when clicking on an image) please read this article.
imagescroller.swf has about 40 KB and embeds only the Verdana font. To be able to embed any other font you’ll need the Image Scroller Flash component.
If you’ll want to use the Image Scroller in Flash projects (FLA files), the Image Scroller is available as a Flash component (MXP file) in the commercial archive
Instructions on how to use the Image Scroller component in Flash you will find here.
To be able to remove the FlashXML.net label from the top-left corner you will need to purchase the commercial archive
Below you will see instructions on how to install and use the Image Scroller Component in Flash (available for Flash CS3, CS4, and Flash Player 9 or later).
For basic instructions on how to integrate the Image Scroller’s SWF file into HTML/PHP, click here.
You can watch an instalation video tutorial of a very similar component in Flash (3D Carousel Menu FX) by clicking here.
In this video you will see:
- how to create an instance of the component on the stage: from the Components panel (Ctrl+F7) drag & drop the component on the stage
- how to give a name to that instance for further use in ActionScript: click on the component instance on the stage and from the Properties panel (Ctrl+F3) enter a name in the text input
- how to access the properties of the component (read or modify) during different moments of your Flash application
Any property of the Component could be accessed that way. The names of the properties are identical with the ones from the settings.xml file.
The properties of the component can be of any of the three types: Number, String, Boolean. We assume it’s intuitive of which type each property is.
Warning! Setting the parameters of the component in the Component Inspector window (Shift+F7) and in the same time having a settings.xml file populated with different values for each property, the properties from the settings.xml file will have priority (meaning that a parameter set in the Component Inspector will be ignored if that parameter is also defined in the XML file)
For now, this component doesn't dispach events, but stay tuned for an update.
Make sure your Wordpress version is greater than 2.8 and your hosting provider is using PHP5.
1. Download or purchase the Image Scroller FX Flash component
2. Create a new folder inside your /wp-content/ directory called flashxml/image-scroller-fx and copy the content of the archive to this folder
3. Install the plugin or upload the image-scroller-fx folder along with all its files to /wp-content/plugins/ directory
4. Activate the plugin from the Plugins tab in WordPress Dashboard
5. Go to Image Scroller FX from the Settings tab and update the path in case you used a different one
6. In the post editor use the following tag to embed the Image Scroller FX: [image-scroller-fx][/image-scroller-fx]. You could also add <?php imagescrollerfx_echo_embed_code(); ?> in the PHP file of your theme
7. Customize your Image Scroller FX using the Live Demo above. Generate the settings.xml text and use it to overwrite flashxml/imagescrollerfx/settings.xml
8. To use your own images, upload them to the flashxml/imagescrollerfx/images folder and update the flashxml/imagescrollerfx/images.xml file accordingly
Additional settings file
To embed the Image Scroller FX more than once, you will need another settings file and (probably) another set of images. Let's assume your new file is called settings2.xml. From the post editor, use the following code: [image-scroller-fx settings="settings2.xml"][/image-scroller-fx]. From the PHP files of your theme, add the file name as the first argument of the imagescrollerfx_echo_embed_code() function call. If you use a separate set of images, don't forget to create a new XML file for that and update the value in the settings file.
No Flash support text
To support visitors without Adobe Flash, you can provide alternative textual content. From the post editor, add the text between [image-scroller-fx] and [/image-scroller-fx]. From the PHP files of your theme, add the text as the second argument of the imagescrollerfx_echo_embed_code() function call.
If you have PHP4
To make it work if you're using PHP4, add the following code [image-scroller-fx width="600" height="300"][/image-scroller-fx] in the post editor. From the PHP files of your theme, add the width and height as the third and fourth argument of the imagescrollerfx_echo_embed_code() function call. Don't forget to provide your own width and height values, since 600 and 300 are just examples.
Make sure your Joomla version is 1.5 and that your hosting provider is using PHP5.
Joomla Module
1. Download or purchase the component
2. Create a new folder inside your Joomla directory called flashxml/imagescrollerfx/
3. Unzip the archive and copy the contents to flashxml/imagescrollerfx/ directory
4. Download the Joomla Module and install it
5. If you used a different folder than flashxml/imagescrollerfx/, update the Path parameter
6. Visit the live demo from the top of this page and customize your settings
Joomla Plugin
1. Download or purchase the component
2. Create a new folder inside your Joomla directory called flashxml/imagescrollerfx/
3. Unzip the archive and copy the contents to flashxml/imagescrollerfx/ directory
4. Download the Joomla Plugin and install it
5. If you used a different folder than flashxml/imagescrollerfx/, update the Path parameter
6. Use {imagescrollerfx}{/imagescrollerfx} where you want the component to show up in your articles
7. Visit the live demo from the top of this page and customize your settings
8. The default name for the settings file is settings.xml, but if you want to use another file (for example settings2.xml), specify the name like this: {imagescrollerfx settings="settings2.xml"}{/imagescrollerfx} where you want the component to show up in your articles
Getting rid of the FlashXML.net label
To remove the FlashXML.net label from the top-left corner you'll need to buy the commercial archive.
Once you will do that, simply use the SWF file from the commercial archive to overwrite the SWF file from the flashxml/imagescrollerfx/ folder.

Hi
I have tried everything i know and still not loading the images on the electrical.html page.. the settings and file locations are exactly the same as on my local machine when i tested it so is there something server side that needs to be taken in consideration?
Hi
Thankyou for response. if I leave the script tag as for the swfobject.js file how should i modify the path for the images.xml?
This is the first image line from the images.xml file….
<photo image=“images/Design_electrical.jpg” bigimage = “images/big/Design_electrical big.jpg” target=”_blank” lightboxinfo=“Description for image Electrical Design” url=“http://www.integrated-electrical.co.uk/electrical.html”>Electrical Design</photo>
All my images for the website are in the ‘images’ folder which is in the root folder of the site!
Thanks
Simon
Hi
Not sure if my post reached you earleir…
I installed the scrollerFX and it works great on my site, locally on my pc. When I uploaded my site it trys to load (red square sequence) but doesnt display the images! I have palced the images.xml, settings.xml, imagescroller.swf in the root folder of the domain (www) I have inserted the following scrip as the swfobject.js is in the ‘js’ folder… In the image folder the src is as follows image=“images/Design_electrical.jpg etc….. I think its a path issue but whatever i try including inserting the flashvars.folderPath = “my_path”; to create the correct pathway. Are the xml files ok in the root directory? I assumed the swfobject.js wont run directly from the root folder and have tried it but no go…..
Is it possible to have a look at the site and advise what the problem may be? www.integrated-electrical.co.uk/electrical.html
Script code added to the electrical.html:

Hi,
You have some wrong path to your photos in your images.xml file. Please make sure you’re using the correct ones.
ok guys now it works. i just repeated all the instructions as i did earlyer. sorry for the previous post. you can delete both my posts!! your plugins really rocks! bye
Hi,
We’re glad you made it work.
Hi guys, i’ve accordion already installed and working on my mainpage. i use wordpress.
i placed the php code into my sidebar (not as a widget)and everything works fine, customizations too!
now i can’t do the same in a page post with image scroller. Neither in this way [image-scroller-fx][/image-scroller-fx] nor with the php code <?php imagescrollerfx_echo_embed_code(); ?>
although i noticed that inserting the php code in a generic page(the base page that host the posts)
it works. so what is not working correctly with embedding the plugin in the posts?
this is my site www.danielepezzella.it and in the home you can see the accordion component on the side bar. now, i’d like to install the imagescroller on the friends page and thumbnail their websites. please give me a light, i really like your components!!!!
Not to sure how to do that. I am to upload every type of extension to my web host, but when I change out the images to a image source that comes from my domain, the flash script stops working. When I change out images from my computer by creating a new folder and images, the flash script seems stalled. If I used the image folders that were previously created in the zip folder and upload those to my web host, it doesn’t work. My goal is to be able to randomly change out images that will be displayed on my website. How can I make this work? Thanks again.
Having a hard time changing image path in settings to my web host and file. Can not make any changes unless it’s done locally. Have any suggestions.? Thanks
Hi,
You could try to generate settings.xml file dynamically using PHP scripting code, ASP or others.
Can you please tell me why this cannot be easily embedded in an html page. I just paid $12 for it on flash components and didn’t realize that it was available for free here. I don’t mind having paid for it, but it sounds that there is many errors still with this specific component. All i want to do is embed this component on one of my pages, the page also has a flash navigation bar, I can’t align this image scroller in the area I’d like for it to be in. Can you tell me why? I will forward this to the support@.
Hello,
If you’ve managed to embed the object, then I presume that you have followed the tutorial found here .
Now, further clarification – the component is available for free download only with a watermakr on it, in the upper left corner.
As for successfully arranging the component in your page, the component is put in a certain div table (checkout the tutorial mentioned above). Use that div’s id in your css file to align the component properly.
Are you guys still working on Imagescroller FX? I have downloaded this 3 times in the last week, and the files keep changing (now I see you have added multiple image sets). Previously, the title/description for the lightbox was not working properly. I tried fixing it myself in the javascript code without any success. Now it appears to be fixed. If you ARE still working on this component, can you please post update comments so I can wait until it is complete?
Hi,
We make updates on our components each time we fix a bug or we add some new features.
We’ll consider your suggestion for creating a section for changelog.
Thank you.
I am not able to change setting.xml
when i reload all diseapers.
can you help me.
(i’m testing on local site.)
thank you
Hello,
Could you please be more specific and give us some more details?
With what you’ve told we’d suggest emptying your browser’s cache, as browsers tend to ignore xml files if they have older versions in their cache.
